How to Unlock Bell 2Wire modems

How to Unlock Bell 2Wire modems

I originally posted this on DSL Reports and I just thought I'd post here too for those who would like to try this.

Summary

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
FLASHING CAN PERMANENTLY BRICK YOUR MODEM.
I ONLY DID THIS ONCE & CAN ONLY CONFIRM THIS WORKS WITH MY MODEM.

RENTED BELL MODEMS ARE BELL PROPERTY.
YOU MAY GET CHARGED FEES FOR MESSING WITH IT.

UPDATED FLASH FIRMWARE - may2013
Flashed modem with a Different Firmware
I just flash the bell 2wire with Qwest lastest firmware (google it). It's way better than Singtel one. And it now has Qos setting and wireless connection/speed are much stable.

bridge mode was found in the 2wire by going to this page.
http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=J30&T...8&NEXTPAGE=J30

 MDC password is 2wire

SIP Application Layer Gateway option is also available on that page.
also to remove system password go here and follow the steps. http://bt2700hgv.tripod.com/052.htm

Bell Sympatico 2Wire 2701HG-G

How to Unlock a BELL 2Wire Modem (ONLY Model 2701HG-G):
-> Bought (Not Rented) a Bell Modem from a guy
-> MDC was password protected
-> Could not visit Websites. Kept getting Bell Registration Webpage
-> Changing DNS settings on Computer or on Modem did not work
-> See my initial thread for more info: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r210...modem-What-now

Solution
-> Flashed modem with a Different Firmware
-> Flashed using this link: http://gateway.2wire.net/tech/upgrade.html
-> No password is needed to Flash
-> http://gateway.2wire.net can be replaced with the modem IP Address 192.168.1.254 or whatever it may be
-> Firmware. See this thread (2nd Post): http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/s...693#post222693
-> MDC password will be "2wire".
-> NOTE: There is no longer an option for "Application Settings" in this firmware.
It MAY be possible to get it back though. See the Firmware info below.

I believe unlocking will allow you to use the modem with dsl providers other than Bell.
